I wanted to give a little primer on what happens in that little box on your desk when you go to the internet. Here’s a basic concept. This is not tech… this is just plain english version 🙂

When you turn on your computer the program that runs the computer is called an ‘operating system’. Right now new computers have Windows 8 operating system on them, a little while ago it was Windows XP. If you are techie you can replace Windows with Linux, which is just a different type of operating system. A Mac computer uses a different operating system but they all do the same thing. They tell the computer what to do when you turn it on and use it.

‘Net Neutrality’ is all over the news right now and it can be a confusing term when trying to understand what is happening. What Net Neutrality means is that an Internet service provider can’t pick and choose what you get to see. History of the Internet

In Tech in Easy Speak on April 6, 2013 at 9:16 pm

There once was an ant who went to work each day.
One day the ant got a great big box.
Other ants from far away got a big box too.
Sometimes he sat and talked to other ants on the big box.
But mostly, he sat and played cards and ate lunch with his ant friends.
While the big box hummed in the other room.

Over time the ant got a new box that was smaller.
The big box once filled a whole room.
It now fit in a small box under the ant’s desk.
A lot of the other ants got a small box under their desk too.
Most of the day the ant sat and talked to other ants on the small box.

But sometimes he sat and played cards and ate lunch with his ant friends at work.

Blank me up Scottie

In Tech in Easy Speak on April 6, 2013 at 9:11 pm

How many times have you sat down to write a blog post and come up with.. nothing. The blank piece of paper reflects back the blank space in your mind. Personally I don’t work well from an empty page. When I have to do any writing for business I usually ask someone to start it for me. It doesn’t matter what it says or how good it is. Just getting the first words on the paper gives me that push to get started.
